This seems like a no-brainer to me, but I’m surprised almost daily when I see where someone has left trash behind as if it would just magically disappear on its own. Often this occurs out on the middle of a hiking trail where someone has stopped to take a lunch break, and/or drink a few beers (kids these days). The Golden Rule for hikers clearly states, if you bring it in, pack it out.
Ok… it’s time for us all to be honest. How many of you have ever left trash behind some place… any place? – Raise your hands!… up high where we can all see them (mine is raised). Ok, you’re forgiven, but just don’t do it again.
So, What to do today?
- Always pack your trash… ALWAYS!
- If you find trash, pack it, even if it’s not yours (This is for all of you who raised your hands).
- Don’t bring glass containers into nature.
Precycle – This means, don’t buy things that can’t be easily recycled.
Remember the three R’s, REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.
