Why 2 When 1 Will Do?

Once is plenty

Once is plenty

I’m going to complain here a little.

Public restroom etiquette is a big thing for me because I used to have to clean them. I don’t know exactly what goes on in the women’s rest room, but guys have the strangest habits (Don’t worry, I won’t go into  all of the dirty details, just a little potty talk).

#1 Why do some men walk up to the urinal and flush it before they even begin? Do they have a problem peeing into a dirty urinal? So they end up flushing BEFORE and AFTER they “go”. I don’t know where you live, but in California and many western states of the United States, water becomes a precious commodity during the dry season. So come on guys… 1 Will Do. I’m not even going to talk about the guys who use the stalls to pee!

#2 For those who bother to wash their hands at all, how many paper towels does it really take to dry the little bit of clean water that’s left on your hands (after your quick dip through the running water? Based on my own observations, most guys use at least two towels for mere seconds to dry their hands before throwing them “toward” the trash can. Many grab another towel to open the door, and then drop it on the floor as they leave. DO YOU GUYS DO THIS AT HOME?

So, what to do today?

My recommendations for the guys:
1. Flush once (after).
2. Wash your hands (with soap).
3. Use just one paper towel (and use the same one to open the door… and don’t drop it on the floor).
4. If you have a compost bin at home, consider taking your paper towel home to compost!

Side-notes:

  • From my years of cleaning experience, women are not nearly as messy as men, but they take FOREVER! Some of my women friends tell me that it’s a bit of a social setting in the rest room. Personally, I don’t like it when a co-worker or friend strikes up a conversation with me at the urinals, I can’t even imagine talking between the stall walls. And who wants to be on the other end of the phone while you’re “doing  your duty”? And one last thing… gum is not water soluble, someone has to pick that out of the urinal!  Come on guys, have respect for those who clean rest rooms!
